Support Me in My Walk to End Hunger
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It's a time of reflection, a time of joy, and obviously, a time of thanks. This will be the fourth year that I will be starting my Thanksgiving by participating in The Walk to End Hunger. This walk is very personal for me. Everyday, I have the privilege of providing Meals on Wheels to more than 100 people in our community.
The meal we provide is just the start, but there is so much more, it provides many of our seniors and people with a disability an opportunity to engage with a friendly volunteer. The meal nutritious the physical body, but the visit nutritious the soul. It helps people know they are important and cared about by their community.
Recently, one of neighbors, Barbara, had finished her rehab from surgery and called to cancel her meals. She shared waht a difference they had made for her duing her recovery. She wanted to stop at the end of the week and asked if a certain volunteer would be driving those last couple of days. I told her "no", and she said, "I was hoping he might stop by one more time and drop off a loaf of his banana bread."
The next week, I saw the volunteer and shared how disappointed Barbara was that she didn't get to see him again. I told him about the comment about the banana bread. Later that week, Barbara called and told me the volunteer had stopped out and dropped off a loaf of banana bread. These are the connections Meals on Wheels provides for people.
I'm asking you to support me in my walk this year. Every donation of $25 will provides meals for one of our neighbors for a week. Thank you for your support and have a blessed Thanksgiving.
